What was Walk National Forest?

Senior church leaders in the National Forest had a vision for a Christian Outreach Mission across the whole area. This took place during September 2009, involving several hundred trained mission team members actively engaged in a variety of mission projects.

Through Faith Missions (TFM) were invited to partner local churches to help make this vision a reality. They have 17 years expertise with area missions. Local churches, however, actively shaped the mission in their area.national_forest_sign2.jpg

The initial invitation came from a group of ministers in the Coalville area. There is good Task Force representing the whole area and different denominations working to pull the Mission together.

Where are the Trees?

Many people know the area for coal mining. However, it has undergone a significant amount of regeneration in the last 10-20 years and is now one of Britain's boldest envionmental projects! 7 million trees have already been planted, mostly broadleaf and the ultimate goal is for woodland to cover more than a third of the area.

Where is it?

The “Forest” takes in parts of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire, linking the ancient forests of Charnwood and Needwood - 200 square miles in all.

The National Forest website gives you all that a visitor needs to know.

The area has many ex-mining communities, the brewery town of Burton-on-Trent, lots of villages and the National Memorial Arboretum, one of the most visited places in England.
